Norse mythology is one of the most difficult mythologies to piece together and understand, although the most colourful and intriguing. Part of why Norse mythology is difficult to understand is because the stories were created in a metaphoric context, to best describe the aspects of the stories and gods, and passed down from generation to generation verbally in song or poetry and were hardly written down which makes that a lot of vital pieces in the mythology are missing or have unreliable sources due to the sources being written after the Christianization of Scandinavia. I have compiled, as best I could and with many sources, a more complete and organised account of Norse mythology, Norse gods and their lineages. My work, however well-researched, should not be taken as the absolute truth of Norse mythology due to a great many of the sources regarding Norse mythology being unreliable. A consistency I have noticed with the stories of the gods is that almost every story has a moral to it, a life lesson, which leads me to conclude (based on my own opinion) that the stories were created and compiled into song/poetry to serve as life-guides for children and adults alike. In Norse culture, honour meant everything and to honour the gods was obligatory. Sharing the stories (life-guides), using the gods as the characters, was perhaps the best way to ensure communal respect and social order.
